This morning, I was joking around with good friends saying I had bought a G-string to head out to a business networking mixer at the pool! This not quite politically correct remark inspired me to write this post.

How can a G-string have a major impact on your business networking approach?

First off, publicists have used very small outfits to promote products and services during many years, in fact, it’s hard to believe that some still do today. The concept, as you know, was about getting the attention of a specific target market by showing them what they want to see. This would bring maximum visibility with minimum information required to promote said product. This tactic worked even though there was almost never a pertinent link between the information (small outfitted women) and the product or service.

This is when I came about this analogy

When used in normal circumstances, a G-string could be described as:
Minimal material for maximum visibility of who is wearing it

Let’s remove the sexist aspect of this context and apply this new found analogy with intelligence.

What if?
A-The material (G-string) represents the information: the word of mouth (WOM) message to be delivered.
B-The person under the G-string represents the business, its image or identity.
The marketing goal is again: Minimal material for Maximum visibility

The amount material corresponds to the complexity of the word of mouth message. Less material equals a more precise and simple message! A more simple and precise message equals easy to talk about to others. The more you are talked about, more visibility is gained.

It’s of up most importance to make sure what it is you want others to see: your image.
The more others see, the closer they are to the truth. And in my view, the more able we are to show ourselves authentically the more able we are to engage in a truthful business relationship.

One thing is sure, if we let ourselves be seen by the right target market in a “G-string” (figure of speach meaning with a strong WOM message), we can rest assured that others will be talking about the person wearing the G-string. (the business)

On the other hand: the more material used to cover things up, the more difficult it is for target markets to see what they like to see. More materiel can also be used to confuse others to believe something that isn’t exactly the hole truth.

A business isn’t taboo in the way flesh can be… But it brings a somewhat similar result. It’s not always comfortable to let others see our true self (without covering ourselves that much) specially when meeting for the first time. However, visibility is an important first step towards being profitable. And authenticity will always win on the long run.

By the way, don’t even think about imagining me in a G-string!!!

Cheers!
